Lichens on twigs

This site provides a user-friendly guide to over 60 lichens which can be found growing on twigs. With the help of our fully illustrated multi-access key we hope you will find identification of these unique organisms easy and fun.

Lichens are extremely sensitive to pollution and are natural indicators of the health of our environment.

This interactive identification guide was developed by Museum scientists Pat Wolseley, Diccon Alexander, Peter James and Anne Hume, with photographs by Harry Taylor.
